Learning outcomes

By the end of this journal club you will be able to:

1. Identify 3 ethnical mandates we have as OTs that support implementing neurodiverse practices

2. Select 3 non-affirming OT practices

3. Select 3 neurodiversity-affirming OT practices

Key takeaways

1. We need to listen to the autistic community when they say that past therapeutic practices have been harmful

2. Changing one non-affirming practice at a time versus trying to overhaul everything you do can lead to lasting change and eliminate overwhelm or guilt

3. We are ethically mandated to support well-being, promote capabilities, and create meaning, and neurodiversity-affirming practices do this for our autistic clients.
